With the current worldwide COVID-19 crisis, the EADV Executive Leadership has been closely tracking its impact within the global dermatology community. We have been monitoring daily recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC & ECDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the many stringent measures and travel bans issued across Europe and by countries around the world.
Given the various restrictions that have been put in place to combat the coronavirus, and in light of our special social responsibility as leaders within the dermatology community, we are writing to confirm that we are taking the necessary action of cancelling the EADV Spring Symposium in Porto, Portugal. We trust that this communication provides attendees with adequate time to manage air travel, hotel reservations, and personal schedules. Further information aimed at answering some of your key questions is available via our corporate website, eadv.org and the event website, eadvporto2020.org.
Preparing for the conference involves the time, talent and creativity of a great many of our physician volunteers, speakers and event partners as well as our own EADV team. We’re incredibly grateful for the immense work and commitment from colleagues in preparation of the Porto Symposium, and are deeply disappointed not to be able to hold the meeting as planned.
In the coming weeks, we will tap into the innovative and agile spirit of the EADV family to focus efforts on our EADV Congress in Vienna this Autumn as well as to find novel ways to deliver educational programmes to the dermatological community. Through regularly posted updates on eadv.org and via our other communications channels, we will keep you appraised of our plans to deliver the research, knowledge and expert insight you value from us as an organisation.
In closing, we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to consider the rapidly changing circumstances as well as the safety and wellbeing of everyone during these difficult times.
EADV Secretary General
